Make notes about your
findings and discuss them three classmates. In particular, what
differences can you identify between the expectations of supervisors
in your own department and those we have outlined for supervisors
in abroad?
3 Go to a seminar or
discussion in your department ( or in your university or college)
and analyse what happens there
- How many people participate
in the discussion,
- Whether there are
some people who do not speak at all,
- Who talks most,
- How people signal
to the seminar leader the speak, and
- Whether the seminar
leader deliberately tries to get people to participate, and how
he or she does this.
After the other members
of your class have also had observe a seminar in this way, discuss
your finding together.
