Compare the notes you produce with the Australian guide. What differences do you see? What particular adjustments will you have to make to your present habits of working when you go abroad to study?
3 Invite two or more students who have completed postgraduate study abroad to talk to your class about:
- Their relationships with their supervisors, and
- The problems of writing a thesis (in English).
(Make sure that your speakers have seen Chapters 8 and 9 of this book before they give their talk. In this way they can focus on the same issues as you have been thinking about.)
Discuss as a group the issues and problems which their speeches raise. Consider also the extent to which the strategies we have suggested in this chapter provide a basis for tackling those problems.
