Many students complain that they read too slowly. There are books about speed reading and systems for reading more effectively - some are less useful than others. Some promise miracles. In our experience, miracles seldom happen. We consider most speed ­reading courses are not really appropriate to academic studies, however useful they may be in secondary school or in business or administration. Seminars are useful training grounds postgraduates. Here you can gain competence and confidence your research. At some stage in your programme you will be required to present a formal paper on the progress and finding , v your research, and to lead the discussion which follows.

This is valuable way of getting advice and criticism from a wider group just yourself and your supervisor. Most students, whether foreign or Australian, dread this experience advance. Yet, later, students regard their first seminar presentation as an important step in Gaining confidence in the quality of their research.
