Language Problems

I can still remember when I first came here, the main problem was understanding what people were saying. It's true that we learn English

In Hong Kong, but learning English is very different from communicating in English. People here speak English with a very heavy Australian accent which makes it even harder to understand and besides, they speak very fast too.

When I first started my course in ANU the main problem is that I did not understand the lectures (it's my language problem). I have difficulties in following lectures and lab demonstration, in using the library or technical equipment, in discussing my work with supervisor or lecturers, in organizing an essay, in taking part in tutorials.

Sometimes my problem is I know the subject and meaning in my language but I don't know how to explain and write the assignment in English.(Always using my Burmese dictionary made my head ache.) I understand the main point is I must try harder than the other students because English is my second languages, but the languages problem made me depressed.

The most essential problem is language (English). It is the problem both in following the class and the tutorials, and in doing general assignments including essays, and in communicating with the people. I am sure I will enjoy My course more and more if I can cope problem well. Other problems may well be handled when I can understand what the Australians say and I can make them understand. I am talking about.(Thai undergraduate in Arts)
